London protest demands arrest of Ehud Barak - Butcher of Gaza

Ehud Barack tweet about Inminds protest, and Inminds response

On Monday 28th May 2018, Inminds human rights group and the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) protested the London visit of war criminal Ehud Barak, Israels' former prime minister and minister of defense. Ehud Barak was peddling his new book at an event hosted by the Jewish community centre JW3 in Camden.

As minister of defense, Ehud Barak initiated and enforced the genocidal siege on 1.8 million residents of Gaza in June 2007. Documents from Israel's defence ministry revealed that Israel uses a meticulously calculated cold-blooded calorie count to limit food entering Gaza to enforce a starvation diet on Gaza where people are always starving but not quiet dead from starvation. Over half of the people of Gaza are children under 15 years old. Oxfam reports that 96% of fresh water in Gaza is unfit for human consumption; and the United Nations reports that 72% of the households are food insecure, that by 2020 Gaza will become uninhabitable. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, has stated that Israel’s ongoing blockade of Gaza is illegal, that “International humanitarian law prohibits starvation of civilians as a method of warfare and it is also prohibited to impose collective punishment on civilians.”

In December 2008 in 'Operation Cast Lead' Ehud Barak ordered the aerial bombardment of Gazan population centers. The attacks involved hundreds of fighter jet sorties, dropping hundreds of tons of bombs on Gazan neighborhoods. Burning white phosphorus raining on the people of Gaza for 22 days. At least 1,400 people, including 344 children, were killed and 5,300 were injured. Schools, hospitals and UN facilities were targeted, medical crews shot at and prevented from evacuating the wounded. The United Nations condemned Israel for war crimes and possible crimes against humanity.

In May 2010 Barak ordered the massacre of humanitarian workers and journalist aboard the freedom flotilla.. in 2012 he again unleashed carnage on Gaza in 'Operation Pillar Of Defense'..

Inminds chair Abbas Ali said " Ehud Barak is a serial war criminal, his CV reads like a pathology of war crimes spanning half a century. If the Metropolitan police had any spine they would arrest him and ship him to the Hague to face charges of crimes against humanity. We are here to demand that arrest. The butcher of Gaza is not welcome in our city, the Jewish Community Centre JW3 should be ashamed to host him - he does not represent Jewish values."

IHRC chair Massoud Shadjareh urged activists to attend "We should not allow someone complicit in war crimes to come here. We urge all campaigners to come and demonstrate that the world will not forget."

For a protest called at such short notice, the turnout was very good. We were very lucky that the zionists decided to hold a counter protest, which whist tiny, really helped in causing disruption at the entrance of the event.. The public were very supportive.. cars hooting in solidarity and many joining the protest. A group of rabbis from the Neturei Karta also joined us, together we chanted "Judaism Yes, Zionism No. The state of Israel must go!".

The story was picked up Israeli media, and Ehud Barak who, rattled by the protest, personally responded via twitter "I will continue to represent the Israeli interests anywhere in the world. The BDS representatives in London can continue to demonstrate until tomorrow." Inminds replied "'The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice'. One day soon you will 'represent Israeli interests' from a cage at the ICC - 344 children massacred in 22 Days #CrimesAgainstHumanity #RememberNuremberg".

Alarmingly the JW3 has employed the services of a dodgy security company which has very deep links with the Israeli military and security apparatus - SQR Group. Its co-founder and CEO Shai Slagter personally lead the JW3 security team on the day, insisting on blocking our Nakba banner. Shai Slagter was previously security manager at the Israeli Embassy supervising 60 security personal; and before that he commanded 3 battalions and 3 units of the Israeli occupation forces, that's some 3,000 soldiers supported by artillery, tanks and air support. He admits to "strategic planning of large military operations, combining several different forces and military arms. Building and executing yearly operational plans and five- year plans. Setting the goals and targets for the entire brigade." He also admits to being a "Major. Commander of an Elite Unit comprising of seven specialist units. Leading the units in action during special counterterrorism operations". One wonders what war crimes he himself is guilty of..

Inminds chair Abbas Ali said "When the JW3, which is meant to be a community centre, employs such a nefarious private military contractor SQR Group with such intimate links to the Israeli occupation forces steeped in war crimes, then its no surprise that the JW3 has rolled out the red carpet for the butcher of Gaza - Ehud Barak."

"They [Met Police] initially denied it, that they had sent officers to Israel to find out how to deal with suicide bombers. When I asked them would you have done the same thing after the Brixton riots and sent people to South Africa (under the apartheid regime) to find out how to deal with black people? They didn't have an answer. I asked the question 'do you have a shoot to kill policy?', they said no they didn't, over a number of years, and then it was finally, tragically, proven that they did have.. we finally cut our ties [ceased meetings with the Met Police in protest], I came out thinking of the police as insincere, hypocritical, having double standards."
