[Boycott - Other News] G4S HQ Protest - Complicity in Torture of Palestinian Children
inminds 3 December 2012 On 9th November 2012 activists protested outside the headquarters of British-Danish security firm G4S in London for its complicity in the imprisonment and torture of Palestinian children.
Protest outside G4S Headquarters included street theatre with people dressed up as IDF guards
G4S is providing security systems to help Israel secure prisons and interrogation centres where Palestinian children are being caged and tortured. These include Ofer prison in the occupied territory where G4S provides the perimeter defense system and the central command control room for the entire facility, and the notorious Al Jalame interrogation centre in northern Israel with its Cell 36 where Defence for Children International reported children are locked in small filthy cells in solitary confinement, some for 65 days, with their only escape being the interrogation room where they are shackled by their hands and feet to a chair whilst being abused, sometimes for hours. G4S provides the security system that keep this torture den operational.
G4S is also provides services and equipment to the illegal Israeli settlements, checkpoints and the wall.

The action was part of the Palestinian Prisoners Campaign launched by Innovative Minds (inminds.com) and the Islamic Human Rights Commission (ihrc.org) which aims to raise awareness for the plight of Palestinian prisoners and build solidarity for their struggle and work towards their freedom.
As part of the protest activists dressed up as IDF soldiers / prison guards and detained members of the public role playing as Palestinians in street theatre. It was interesting to see the reaction of passers-by - one even came to the rescue of the 'Palestinian' detainee (see video).

The protest also highlighted the plight of the Palestinian hunger strikers. Ayman Sharawna who had been on his 139th day without food whilst Samer Al-Issawi on 108 days of hunger strike. Both men in critical condition with Ayman Sharawna having lost vision in his right eye and all sensation in his body.

The protesters also demanded the immediate release of Ayman Nasser, a human rights defender working for Addameer the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association. Father of four, Ayman Nasser was abducted from his home on 15th October when Israeli soldiers raided his home with dogs. He is currently being interrogated at the G4S secured notorious Moskobiyyeh detention centre infamous for torture. He has not been charged with anything other than defending the rights of Palestinian prisoners.

Next Protest
The next protest in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners will be on Friday 7th December at 2pm outside Parliament. In addition to the hunger strikers and Ayman Nasser, we will also highlight the plight of Palestinian parliamentarians being imprisoned by Israel. Since Israels recent attack on Gaza six more Palestinian MPs have been abducted by Israel.
We will be tweeting live from the protest with live photos being uploaded to our facebook page.

Featured MP3 Podcast "You cannot simplify the question of violence.. You look at human history - the American revolution, the civil war, the end of slavery in the United States, the African National Congress, the end of colonialism - by and large these were some combination of popular social uprisings and social movements and non-violent protests AND armed resistance. Now that doesn't mean I'm advocating for any armed action today, I'm not. I'm committed to finding ways of acting and speaking and making people laugh and doing art and disrupting the war machine in other ways, but I think focusing on violence when we have the comfort of being protected by mass of armed violence is not non-violence at all.. if you are pointing to the mass of violence and who's doing the mass of violence in the world today, you have to look to state violence - that's people bombing whole cities from the air..
